When installing the screws, don’t over-tighten them. Unlike installing a wheel, when installing the license plate and frame it doesn’t take a lot of torque to hold it on the vehicle. Over-tightening the screws distorts the retainer rings and makes it very difficult to snap the screw covers in place. Screw covers must “snap” tightly onto the retainers or they can fall off. When properly installed the screw covers act as a theft deterrent.
INSTALLING A 4-HOLE PLATE OR FRAME WITH ONLY 2 HOLES ON THE VEHICLE
When installing a 4-hole frame on vehicles with only 2 holes, use the extra screws and nuts to secure the frame in the two unused holes and install the screw covers. When doing this (rather than using a 2-hole thin frame), there won’t be two empty holes showing in the license plate.
WIDE BOTTOM FRAME INSTALLATION
When installing a wide-bottom frame on a vehicle that has built-in TABS for the bottom of the license plate (with only two mounting holes), work the plate behind the tabs and the frame in front of the tabs. Be sure the plate is locked into the tabs on the frame also.
The ABS plastic frames have a special slot cut out to accommodate this situation. Metal frames do not have the slot but can be installed in the same manner. This procedure secures the plate and frame assembly top and bottom.
INSTALLING TOP ENGRAVED FRAMES "TRUCK FRAMES"
The adapter must be installed on vehicles that have tag mounting holes on the top only.
Insert the nylon pieces into the square holes until they fit tightly. Face the slotted side of the nylon pieces towards the vehicle. Place the tag on the adapter side which faces you. Using the holes without the nylon pieces, install the adapter and tag on the vehicle using the original screws.
Mount the frame on the top of the state plate by sliding the frame tabs (back side of the wide portion) behind the license plate. Attach the frame into the nylon pieces using the enclosed hardware.
GENERAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE
All License Plates and License Frames
When cleaning use only mild non-abrasive detergents, warm water, and a very soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly. Once the product is clean, protect it from future wear by applying a light coat of pure wax (free of abrasives or cleaners).
Additional Considerations in the Event You Purchase a Gold Plated Accessory
Gold is a very soft metal when used in its near pure form, in this case, 23k. Autogold use the finest cobalt -hardened gold plating process available. They call it TruPlate. Regardless, it’s still very soft compared to other metals. Just how long the gold plating will last depends on how you care for it.
Never use abrasives, scrub pads, or paper products on the gold plating (paper towels are like sandpaper to gold). Commercial car wash facilities do not use scrubbers that are gentle enough for gold plating. Regular runs through a car wash will shorten the life of your gold plating.
