Humble Beginnings
Cardone Industries was co-founded by Michael Cardone, Sr. and son, Michael Cardone, Jr., in a small row house in North Philadelphia. The year was 1970, and their niche was remanufacturing a single product line, windshield wiper motors. Over the years, the company has grown and now offers over 70 product lines and 46,000 SKUs of automotive hard parts.
"Our aggressive growth plan has taken us a long way from that row house in North Philadelphia," said Michael Cardone, Jr. "But our culture still reflects that small business, familial mentality that was imprinted on the company at its inception. Our people – our “factory family”– are revered as Cardone's most valuable asset."
A Growing Company
Since its beginning over 44 years ago, Cardone has grown from six employees into the largest privately-held automotive parts remanufacturer in the world. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cardone now employs over 5,000 employees with additional facilities in California, Texas, Mexico and Canada.
A Family Operated Company
Now in its third generation, Cardone is positioned to take on the future. Raised in the traditions of his father and grandfather, Michael Cardone III serves as President. "I have learned the company from the inside out," said Cardone, III. "We've built a wonderful family and a wonderful corporation. I grew up here, and I intend to carry the Cardone tradition into the ever-evolving future."
Reverse Engineering Expertise
As remanufacturers, they hold ourselves to a higher standard of excellence. It’s not enough to simply know how to make a part — they also need to know how to diagnose a problem, find the solution, and ensure excellent results. And that ability only comes from a driven team of proven experts.
They know why parts fail. After nearly 50 years of re-engineering, retooling, and reimagining worn-out parts, we’ve seen just about everything that can go wrong under the hood. With this experience, their engineers are able to anticipate and prevent many of the most common failures. They do more than just rebuild — they build it better.
Their team’s knowledge is grounded in customer feedback. They recognize that an innovation is only truly innovative if it solves a real-world problem, so they have a nationwide tech council to deliver direct, unfiltered feedback that informs and inspires their services.
Their tech council is recruited from a diverse cross-section of shop owners and service managers who use Cardone products every day. They keep their finger on the pulse of industry needs, supporting their innovation with practical feedback and technical insight.
They can guarantee these results because they inspect, redesign, and renew every part with integrity and innovation. Their success is demonstrated in each item of their 43,000 part inventory, which serves every model year from 1930 to today, across 90+ product lines.
Awards
At Cardone, they pour everything they have into building it better — and others have taken notice. We’re honored to have been recognized by industry peers for their innovation, visionary leadership, and lifetime achievements.
In May 2020, CARDONE was honored by the Automotive Content Professional Network (ACPN) at the 2020 Knowledge Exchange Conference by winning multiple Content Excellence awards. For the past several years in a row, the company has been honored with multiple awards from this esteemed organization.
Pursing excellence is at the heart of CARDONE's history. Company founder, Michael Cardone, Sr., was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 1994 for launching an entire industry from the simple idea of building new life into windshield wiper motors.
Continuing his father’s legacy of excellence, Michael Cardone, Jr. won the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2014 for his continued example of innovation while leading the largest privately-owned automotive part remanufacturer in the world. Michael also won the Triangle Award, the highest honor awarded by the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association, for tirelessly improving the automotive industry.
Between Cardone Remanufactured Products and Cardone New Products, you have flexible product options to suit your needs. With Cardone Service Plus Tools & Accessories, you have supplementary tools to make installation of Cardone products a snap.
Since day one, remanufacturing, the renewal of worn parts back to new or better performance, has been the core of Cardone business — and A1 Cardone products are the highest quality remanufactured parts in the automotive aftermarket.
That’s because Cardone doesn’t just replace broken components — they completely disassemble every worn part, also known as a “core”, and thoroughly clean and inspect every component. Through reverse engineering, company's engineers pinpoint original equipment design weaknesses through examining common wear areas. They incorporate fixes into Cardone renewal process as needed to produce reliable products you can count on.
The same reverse-engineering experience they’ve gained from over 44 years of remanufacturing is the foundation of Cardone Select Engineered (CSE) Technology.
Since company has seen where and why original parts typically fail, their engineers incorporate improvements into their Cardone Select new product designs. That’s why they can say Cardone Select products are “built better from the start.”

Saving the environment one core at a time...
Remanufacturing is one of the simplest ways to achieve environmental sustainability. It saves over 80% of the energy and raw material required to manufacture a new part and keeps used parts, otherwise known as "cores", out of landfills. Remanufacturing can often improve the original design by using reengineering techniques to determine why a part failed prematurely. That ability to diagnose flaws, renew original cores and improve their performance is what differentiates remanufacturing from recycling, where used products are broken down to their raw form. Cardone remanufacturing process is sustainable from beginning to end. They take high quality parts and give them a new life, conserving thousands of tons of resources.
They also hold to this core value by recycling the waste and byproducts produced during the remanufacturing process. As the effects of human waste and pollution become ever more clear, they acknowledge that contributing further harm to our planet is simply not an option.
The way companies use materials to bring you parts matters. You depend on your car to get you where you need to go, and we all depend on the earth for the resources we need. That’s why they believe in reengineering parts and materials to be more dependable during their second life. Sustainability is a matter of integrity, an outlook that changes how they do business from start to finish.
Reuse, Recycle, Refurbish
Cardone has been operating in an environmentally conscious manner since they first opened their doors in 1970. In fact, protection and conservation of the common environment is a fundamental component of company corporate policy. Over 44 years later, Cardone business has grown but their ecological footprint has remained small. This didn’t happen by accident. Cardone views their impact on the environment through the lens of social responsibility, not just profitability. As stewards of the earth, they have developed their remanufacturing processes following the principles of sustainability – reuse, recycle, and refurbish.
In an effort to remain true to Cardone corporate policy and environmental sustainability, they constantly evaluate their business operations to find opportunities to further improve procedures. Over the past two years, one area of focus has been stormwater runoff at Cardone corporate headquarters and main distribution facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
While significant in its own right, this project is just a part of Cardone’s broader and ongoing commitment to clean water issues. In fact, Cardone was recently named the recipient of the Philadelphia Water Department’s 2013 Bronze Award in recognition of the company’s achievement of 100 percent compliance with its wastewater permits and pretreatment efforts that allowed the company to prevent even a single violation in all of 2012.
While Cardone is proud of this accomplishment, this achievement merely reflects the results of a strong corporate commitment to environmental sustainability and green principles. It is, put simply, just the way Cardone does business.
"Green" Initiatives
As an inherently sustainable craft, remanufacturing needs protection, support, and development. That’s why Michael Cardone, Jr. helped found the Motor and Equipment Remanufacturing Association (MERA), and Cardone Industries is still a member today. This association is a growing network of manufacturers, suppliers, and professional service firms that promotes the environmental, economic, and product performance benefits of remanufactured goods. By uniting professionals operating in the automotive and heavy-duty, high desert off-road sectors, MERA ensures the longevity of remanufacturing and protection of the earth’s resources.
Awards
Cardone has regularly earned the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence—an annual recognition of state leaders, businesses, municipalities, and institutions that benefit Pennsylvania’s environment and economy through innovative green technologies and environmental management. The Governor has repeatedly recognized Cardone because of its stormwater management system and dedication to sustainable business practices.
