Can I substitute the supplied hardware for a hitch with something else?

Unless authorized by a professional installer or manufacturer of the product, substituting hardware that is supplied with the hitch is not recommended. Supplied hardware is tested to meet the capacity of the hitch, and substituting it out without authorization could void your warranty and cause the hitch to fail.

Can I weld my hitch to the frame?

Never weld a hitch to the frame unless specified by the hitch manufacturer. All welding should be done by a certified professional. Improper welds can weaken both the hitch and the frame of your vehicle.

Can you use sway control with surge brakes?

Yes. Sway Control does not change the deceleration difference between the vehicle and trailer, so the surge brakes function properly.

Can you use weight distribution on trailers with surge brakes?

No. With Surge Trailer Brakes the deceleration difference between the vehicle and the trailer during braking creates a pressure, which activates the surge trailer brakes. With weight distribution, the vehicle and trailer act as one, causing the Surge Brake System not to function properly.

I have a 5.5' bed; can I install a fifth wheel?

Installation of a fifth wheel on any bed less than 6' is not recommended, due to trailer to cab clearance. Any bed between 6' and 6.5' should have a roller installed to make tight cornering possible.

My trailer has a C-channel frame; can I still install a WD system?

Yes, but it requires a WD system that comes with dual length bolts that will allow installation on C-channel and Square tube frames up to 3". On frames that have a plate welded across the top of the A section of the frame, you can modify and weld a Hook-up bracket to each side.

What does OEM mean?

"OEM" stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This refers to a company - usually a car manufacturer - that acquires a product and reuses or incorporates it into a new product with its own brand name.

What is the difference between Round bar and Trunnion style weight distribution systems?

Although aesthetically different, there are not any significant structural advantages to either system. Even though some have stated that the round bar system offers a smoother ride due to the fact that the bars are round and allow more flexibility as opposed to its rigidly square cousin. The Trunnion style hitch does offer more ground clearance (1-3" depending on manufacturer) which can be very helpful when using a tow vehicle that already is rather low to the ground. Both hitches will need to be greased in the mounting locations to decrease wear and tear on the head and bars.

What is the purpose of a front mount hitch?

Front mount receiver hitches provide a convenient mount for hitch accessories such as a step pad, license plate holder, skid shield, spare tire mount, or a winch mount plate. It also provides an easy way to maneuver your boat at the launch or campground.

What's the difference between weight carrying & weight distribution?

Weight Carrying is a towing situation where all of the tongue weight is carried directly on the rear of the tow vehicle and on the hitch. Weight Distribution is a towing situation whereby use of a weight distributing hitch, some or all of the tongue weight is evenly distributed throughout from the rear to the front of the tow vehicle.

Why can't I tow with my fifth wheel roller in the maneuvering position?

Towing with your 5th wheel roller in the maneuvering position puts the tongue weight of your trailer behind the rear axle. This puts too much weight on the back of the vehicle causing the front to be too light, giving you both braking and steering problems.

Will drilling in my frame void my warranty?

Each vehicle manufacturer has specifics regarding their warranty. To determine if drilling or modifying your frame voids your warranty, it is best to call your local dealer, or contact the vehicle manufacturer.
