Whether your vehicle uses a rack and pinion or steering box system, outer tie rods are typically the last connection point between the steering linkage and steering knuckle.
Rack and Pinion Type: Outer tie rods provide the link between the steering knuckle and the inner tie rods. They are the final pivot point when initiating a wheel turn. They commonly appear as a right-angled ball joint.
Steering Box Type: Outer tie rods are used as the primary link between all points within the system. With connections to the steering knuckle, center/drag link and Pitman arm, it is not unusual to find as many as six outer tie rod joints on this steering type. They can appear as a thread rod with a right-angled ball joint, bushing or open taper.

WHY ARE INNER TIE RODS IMPORTANT?
Reaplcement Inner Tie Rod
Factory Inner Tie Rod
OE Inner Tie Rod
In automotive applications, this type of boot can be found on inboard and outboard CV (Constant Velocity) joints and prop shafts. CV boots keep moisture, dirt and other debris particles sealed out, preventing contamination of the internal parts of CV joints. They also keep lubrication sealed in, ensuring maximum part life.
Depending on whether your vehicle uses a rack and pinion or steering box system, inner tie rods may be described as:
Rack and Pinion type: Inner tie rods are mounted to either end of the rack and pinion and provide a pivot point to isolate road conditions from the rack and pinion system. They appear as a threaded rod with an in-line ball joint.
Steering box type: Inner tie rods are mounted to either end of the center link. They appear as a threaded rod with a right-angled ball joint.

WHY ARE IDLER ARMS IMPORTANT?
Reaplcement Idler Arm
Factory Idler Arm
OE Idler Arm
Idler arms are used on vehicles with “box steering” systems, usually trucks and rear wheel drive passenger vehicles. The idler arm assists the Pitman arm by supporting other steering linkage components as it travels in the direction controlled by the steering gear. The bracket side of the idler arm is mounted to the frame side of your vehicle on one end and supports a ball joint on the other. Typically, an idler arm is positioned on the opposite side of the center link from the Pitman arm, allowing it to hold the center link at the correct height.
Depending on the vehicle application, idler arms may be considered:
Arm type: Arm type idler arms consist of an arm with mounting points on one end that attach to the frame of the vehicle, while the other end of the arm is connected to the main body through a bearing.
Bracket type: Bracket type idler arms contain the pivot assembly within a forged housing, which bolts directly to the frame of the vehicle with the bearing contained inside the assembly.

WHY ARE PITMAN ARMS IMPORTANT?
Reaplcement Pitman Arm
Factory Pitman Arm
OE Pitman Arm
Pitman arms are used on vehicles with “box steering” systems, usually trucks and rear wheel drive passenger vehicles. Typically mounted between the steering gear and the center link, the Pitman arm creates a pivoting point.
Pitman arms are distinguished by their splined arms, which mesh to the steering gear. This allows them to convert torque from the steering gear into a mechanical force that permits movement of the steering linkage. Pitman arms are supported in this function by idler arms.

WHY ARE RACK AND PINNION BOOTS IMPORTANT?
Reaplcement Rack and Pinion Boot
Factory Rack and Pinion Boot
OE Rack and Pinion Boot
Rack and pinion boots, or bellows, seal the inner tie rod and the rack and pinion shaft. They keep moisture, dirt and other debris particles sealed out, preventing contamination and damage to the steering rack components. Rack and pinion boots face constant exposure to road debris, contaminants and thermal cycling. The primary cause of part failure is puncturing from road debris. To ensure optimal part life, requirements for rack and pinion boots include:
High- and low-temperature resistance
Puncture, abrasion and chemical resistance
Resistance to extension, compression and bending fatigue
