PTP Turbo Blankets is one of the leading suppliers of turbo blankets and exhaust wraps in the country, appealing to both street and race performance enthusiasts. They at PTP strive to serve the worldwide marketplace with performance enhancement products for automotive, motorcycle, marine, and off-road applications with high quality turbo blankets and heat wraps that reflect their many years of experience in research and development and their strong drive for excellence.
The innovative creations of PTP are always expanding. Their dedicated research and development team is continuously at work to explore the best in materials and engineered designs to create heat insulation blankets and wraps that are beyond industry standards and that appeal to all performance enthusiasts.
HISTORY
Their story at PTP (ProTech Performance) dates back to October 1996 when they were established as the first import performance shop in Austin, Texas. They started the business, building rotary engines for high performance applications. Since then, they have expanded to provide repair and performance enhancements to all import vehicles. In early 2000, PTP began research & development on custom products for vehicles to help with efficiency and performance. In 2004, PTP created the first turbo kit for the Mazda RX-8, and it was featured in Car & Driver Magazine.
During the development of their turbo kit, they created a custom heat shield, which was designed to help hold heat within the exhaust impeller casing of the turbocharger. Building upon this design, they came up with the idea for the turbo blanket, and they started to develop a prototype. After testing their new prototype and observing incredible results, they decided to mass produce their turbo blanket for the popular universal T3, T3/T4 and Tf6 turbo sizes.
Since then, PTP has been designing and manufacturing premium, hand-crafted turbo blankets and heat wraps that meet their customers needs at an affordable price. Their products are very well known today for their high standard of quality and for the proven performance benefits which they provide. (For example, please see the January 28, 2011 article about PTP Turbo Blankets in the March 2011 issue of Import Tuner Magazine.
Responding to popular demand, they now offer the following turbo blanket sizes: T3, T3/T4, and T6. They also provide turbo blankets designed specifically for the following turbochargers: Subaru Impreza WRX/STI turbo, Force Performance turbo, and Ford Focus ST turbo. Further, they now provide fiberglass exhaust wraps as well as their new lava exhaust wraps for exhaust downpipes and headers.
WHAT MAKES A PTP TURBO BLANKET DIFFERENT?
High standards for material selection, design, and construction, and also for its ability to provide these high quality products at an affordable price. It is important to note that, as unfortunate as it is, there are many imitation turbo blankets out there - often made in China. These imitation turbo blankets are manufactured using much inferior materials for construction. Imitation turbo blankets can be ineffective or worse, they can be dangerous if flammable materials are used.
PTP Turbo Blankets and wraps are the result of years of product research and development. The exact same materials that are used in their turbo blankets and wraps are currently being used in multiple military applications. Their materials are on the cutting edge of heat insulation technology.
PTP is proud to say that the performance benefits of their turbo blankets have been tested and confirmed by one of the most highly-regarded automotive testing facilities in the nation. In May 2014, The University of Texas at Austin’s Engines and Automotive Research Program issued a comprehensive analysis of the gains achieved through the usage of a PTP turbo blanket on a 6.7 L Cummins diesel engine (bench dyno testing). The report, Performance Improvements of Turbocharged Engines With The Use of a PTP Turbo Blanket, stated that, “…[i]n all cases [PTP turbo blanket usage] resulted in an improved boost performance in the intake and a significant time-to-torque advantage of the engine . . .” (p.V)” Matthews and Bickle further state that their measurements “showed that the key feature of the PTP Turbo Blanket was improvement of turbocharger performance and engine acceleration which will result in improved vehicle acceleration.” (p.31) Click here to read the full report.
