StopTech® Big Brake Kits exceed stock performance in two key areas: First, larger rotors increase heat capacity, allowing a driver to brake harder stop-after-stop with reduced chance of fade. The key, however, is to increase heat capacity and reduce compliance without upsetting a vehicle's stock front-to-rear brake torque ratio. That is why StopTech® developed the Balanced Brake Upgrade® design philosophy, which precisely apportions front and rear braking resources while factoring in vehicle weight transfer under braking.
Every StopTech Balanced Big Brake Kit is engineered to produce that optimal balance using caliper bores and pistons specifically selected and tested for each vehicle application. This is what sets StopTech apart from off-the-shelf solutions.
In contrast, a brake upgrade that adds too much front torque (as many do), will reduce your car's ability to maximize the traction available from all four tires, robbing you of performance. In addition, a system that uses too many pistons or pistons that are too large will make the brake pedal much more difficult to modulate, limiting a driver's control of brake input.

Choosing the correct Big Brake Kit
Big Brake Kits offer superior street performance.
They feature fully forged calipers with patented stiffening bridges, patented 2-piece AeroRotors® for optimized cooling, braided stainless steel brake lines, performance brake pads, mounting brackets and all necessary hardware to complete the installation. StopTech® Big Brake Kits were the first Balanced Brake Upgrades® on the market, offering optimized brake bias to utilize all the traction available from all four tires.
Trophy Big Brake Kits
For ultimate track racing performance StopTech offers Trophy Race Big Brake Kits, with naturally anodized lightweight components designed to survive the rigors of racing. Trophy Kits feature fully forged, lightweight STR calipers, 2-piece AeroRotors®, braided stainless steel brake lines, mounting brackets and hardware. The MAX Float hardware allows for the greatest amount of float between the hat and rotor. These Trophy Race Kits are used on many of the top competitors in the SCCA Pro Pirelli World Challenge Championship as well as in Grand-Am and other race series.
Ultimate street performance is obtained with a StopTech® Trophy Sport Big Brake Kit. The Trophy Sport Big Brake Kits are designed for street driven production vehicles and use the same STR calipers, AeroRotors® and AeroHats® as the Trophy Race Big Brake Kits, but add silicone dust boots to extend service intervals and anti-rattle rotor mounting hardware for quieter street operation. Trophy Sport Kits also include StopTech® Street Performance brake pads for high performance street and occasional track use. They are the ultimate street braking system.
There are two types of StopTech® Trophy Big Brake Kits® available - one for the track and the other for the street.
Touring Big Brake Kits
StopTech® Touring Kits offer the best performance from a 1-piece rotor upgrade system. Designed for street driven production vehicles, Touring Kits include the same forged 2-piece calipers as the StopTech® Big Brake Kits, as well as StopTech® Stainless Steel Brake Lines, StopTech® Street Performance Brake Pads, application-specific caliper brackets and hardware. The difference is in the use of larger than stock 1-piece rotors, which offer the most value to those seeking better performance than their factory setup.
They offer nearly the same performance as the StopTech® Big Brake Kits and Trophy full race systems at a more affordable price point. Designed for street driven production vehicles, StopTech® Touring Kits include forged 2-piece calipers, larger StopTech® Sport 1-piece rotors, StopTech® Stainless Steel Brake Lines, StopTech® Street Performance Brake Pads and application-specific caliper brackets.
The stiff 2-piece, fully-forged calipers have designated piston sizes specific to each application and provide a firmer, more responsive brake pedal that provides better brake pedal modulation. Depending on the application, Touring Big Brake Kits® are available in two-, four- and six-piston configurations and 5 different caliper colors that use a special high temperature paint to withstand extreme conditions. All StopTech® Touring Big Brake Kits® include stiff calipers that utilize silicone dust boots to extend service intervals. The larger 1-piece StopTech® Sport rotors, available in slotted, drilled and drilled+slotted finishes, provide greater heat capacity and reduced brake fade. Also assisting in fade resistance and higher performance are the StopTech® Street Performance Pads® which have a high maximum operating temperature, and high bite for responsive brakes that can be driven hard.

StopTech® and Centric Parts® offer several different types of street and high performance brake pads to fit both OEM calipers and StopTech Big Brake Kits. Selecting the ideal pad requires finding the proper balance between noise, dust, bite, pad life, fade resistance and other factors.
Choosing the correct brake pad starts with an honest assessment of the driver's typical driving style and conditions. For example, if the vehicle is driven 80 percent in highway commuting conditions, 20 percent on canyon roads, and zero percent on the track, then a StopTech Street pad will likely offer the best combination of stopping performance, low dust and low noise.
If the vehicle is frequently used for track days but also as a daily driver, it might be better served by the StopTech Sport Pad - provided that an even transfer layer of pad material on the rotor is maintained by periodically re-bedding in the pads. For track days, StopTech bolt-in caliper bridges make swapping over to dedicated track/race pads for the day of the event even easier.
High performance doesn’t necessarily just refer to high speeds either. In the automotive world, high thermal loads come in many shapes and sizes.
For emergency, pursuit or rescue vehicles, or simply a pickup truck or van that handles towing and hauling duties, Centric Fleet Performance or StopTech Sport pads might be the best choice. Cryogenic Treated Rotors
For drivers who need something even tougher than a standard StopTech® Sport rotor, but are not ready for a big brake kit, StopTech offers cryogenically treated Cryo® rotors. Cryogenic treatment is a one-time stress relief process that involves both cold and heat cycling of the brake rotor. Using a proprietary computer-controlled process over a 24-hour period, the cryo machine gradually cools the rotors down to -300º F, then gradually brings them up to over +300º F, and finally back to room temperature. This conditioning of the rotor improves its service life, especially in fleet and emergency vehicle applications.
