An automotive creeper is a low-profile wheeled platform that lets you gain better access to the underbody of your automobile. Creepers consist of a lightweight steel or aluminum frame, a metal, hard plastic, or cushioned surface, and a set of wheels or casters that make it easy for a mechanic to maneuver. Typically, creeper cushions are covered with vinyl that protects the surface and lets you easily clean it from oil and grime. Car creepers usually feature padded headrests, while more expensive models have adjustable headrests that can considerably minimize user’s fatigue of long-hour work.
A convertible creeper can be easily transformed into a low stool that can put you on just the right height. A so-called creeper seat features a tool tray positioned underneath the seat to let you keep the necessary tools always ready at hand and easy to access. Gooseneck over-the-engine creepers fit easily over most vehicles and allow for access to the engine from above without having to stoop over it for hours. Topside creepers have an extendible ladder that provides access to top parts of your car. To use a standard car creeper, an automobile must be jacked up and secured with jack stands.
