Chamois is the inner split of a sheepskin or alpine antelope 100% fish oil tanned. This is the industry standard asdescribed in Standard CS99 of The Sponge and Chamois Institute and for many years by the FTC. The Chamois is usedfor drying, for washing windows and mirrors and when dry for polishing surfaces to a high shine. Chamois’ unique qualities and characteristics vary significantly from other leathers. The inner split of the sheepskin, when100% fish oil tanned, is soft with a relatively open fiber structure that readily absorbs liquids and residual dirt particles andis able to easily release liquids and dirt for superior long-lasting use and repeat performance. Other leathers, such as goatskin, are dense and tough and will not perform in the same manner even when tanned. As a result, goat skin leathersare unable to release dirt particles, which become compacted in the skin interfering with performance. Chamois’ distinctive yellow lustrous color is created during the fish oil tanning process. In order to duplicate that color innon-Chamois leathers, such as goat or pig skin, dyes are frequently used. Dyes may be released on the vehicle or material on which it is used. Dyes are not used with Chamois. S.M. Arnold, Inc. offers genuine Chamois based on a variation of three important criteria - SIZE, WEIGHT, and most importantly QUALITY - Since 1928!

Much Too Thin! Not Same Thickness and Width as Before.
SM Arnold® - 5 Lb. Cotton/Polyester Professional Gentle Polishing Cloth
Quality and composition of this product (5-lb. rolls of SM Arnold 85-695 Cotton/Polyester Profession Polishing Cloth) is inconsistent. Purchased two (2) 5-lb. rolls. Same product number as the rolls we've purchased previously over the past 10 years or so but clearly not the same product. The 2 rolls received seemed to be mislabeled as it looks like loosely woven cheesecloth. The material seems easily two-thirds thinner than the 85-695 we're used to; solvent pours through it like it's a sieve. Even folded half upon itself, any friction or pressure makes it feel like your fingertips are going right through the material. And the rolls are much smaller in width than the previous ones. The rolls were received, placed in the supply room, and then not opened until a couple of months later, so return to TRUCKiD was not possible. TRUCKiD suggested we contact S.M. Arnold, so we did. We were told S.M. Arnold doesn't manufacture the product. They buy "seconds" and are actually only selling the material by weight, not by characteristic, width, thickness, or quality. Basically, just selling 5 lbs. of some kind of cloth. This is what we were told via phone conversation. Three weeks later, in an email, S.M. Arnold, Inc. told a slightly different story. Since this cheesecloth-like material is useless for our purposes, that's nearly $100 down the drain. Be wary of this product if you need anything more specific than just "5 lbs. of material". Would suggest S.M. Arnold, Inc. revise the product descriptio n to include: Product composition may vary.
