Hawk® - Brake Pads InstructionsHawk® - Brake Pads Instructions

Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads are made of ceramic compounds instead of traditional metallic ones found on most vehicles as original equipment. While the benefits of ceramic brakes can be specially tuned to optimize hard racetrack braking, autobahn speed highway needs, or simply provide longer wear, Performance Ceramic brake pads are designed for use to provide higher levels of smooth, refined braking on high performance production cars that may be driven under autobahn conditions rather than on the racetrack. Ceramic pads are used in professional racing because they offer the natural ability to stay cool under the most severe conditions where 200 mile-per-hour speeds generate blistering temperatures. Heat buildup is reduced so extensively that brake fade rarely occurs due to fluid reaching boiling temperature. Ceramic brake pads are far quieter due to their higher resonant frequency undetectable by human ears, so squealing noise does not become an issue, even in the most extreme cold or warm temperatures. Performance Ceramic Brake Pads offer the extremely visible benefit of producing finer, less obtrusive dust that does not stick to most wheel surfaces – most befitting to a high-end automobile. You'll be spared the large amounts of visible black dust that soils aluminum wheels and ultimately becomes corrosive to finishes applied on them. And because the wear factor of ceramic pads is lower than traditional metallic ones, they will last longer.

If you're installing Hawk Performance Ceramic brake pads with new brake rotors, you'll find down the road when the time comes to replace the pads again, rotors will still be usable enough to last through another set of brake pads. If you install them without replacing rotors, pre-chamfered pad edges will mate well against grooves and lips that have already formed as rotor surfaces wear. Instead of the pad squealing as it rubs along the lip edges, it will quietly and evenly press against the part of the rotor where it will have the most effect. To ensure the superior braking power of these pads is not compromised during bad weather conditions, they feature a slotted center groove to effectively remove water, dust, and gasses that build up normally during the braking process. While the many advantages of ceramic brake pads typically come at a high cost, we offer you the superior all-around performance of these parts with value-priced brake parts from Hawk. You don't need a high-performance vehicle to enjoy the benefits these brakes offer, and you might find your dealer charging a similar price while giving you less.

Squeaky And a Bit Dusty
Hawk® HB472Z.650 - Performance Ceramic Front Brake Pads
It performed well the first 3,000 miles and then it started to squeak. They stop good and overall do what they are supposed to do but I hate the squeaking noise they make. The dust is moderate and that doesn't bother me as much but I just wish it didn't squeak almost every time I begin to stop anywhere.

Big Improvenent
Hawk® HB538Z.760 - Performance Ceramic Front Brake Pads
So far these are as advertised. Brake dust is low especially compared to the semi metallic pads that I replaced. Noticed improved braking immediately as my car stopped quicker on the first bedding/breaking in stop from 35 mph than it did with previous pads. I did have a hard time finding Hawk pads that fit my car, 2007 Volkswagen Passat Wagon with V6 and all wheel drive. Tried two other part numbers before that didn't fit before settling in on HB538Z.760. All three fit as far as size but the morning bracket on the outside pad didn't allow for the mounting spring/bracket didn't work. Used the Hawk website to research and all three were listed as correct. Even these aren't an exact fit as the wear sensor cable didn't have the right connector. I clipped the wire and spliced with the previous connector as a work around.

Expected Better
Hawk® HB507Z.711 - Performance Ceramic Front Brake Pads
The pads had the black thing off from the housing bracket so I guess they not anodized or even paint or coated properly. Was going to buy Red Stuff from EBC changed my mind in the middle and bought these. Installation was just fine and easy, the brake response is better and the car stops quicker even though quality wise I'm guessing they won't last as long as the OEM but i guess time will tell.
